Keith Wecker
Artist In Residence | June 2024
V.Vecker (b. Keith Wecker, 1983) is a composer, improvisor and multi-instrumentalist exploring sound through organized aural systems and technology.
His instrumental approach is centred around the act of live looping and the sonic interplay that is created by layering of sound on top of sound. Beginning in the mid 2000s, Keith has been a longstanding figure in the Vancouver experimental scene, performing and improvising with numerous acts and artists. In addition to being an active performer and improvisor he was an active visual arts curator, booker and promoter. His unique sound is highlighted by the diversity of the acts he has shared the stage with (Tim Hecker, Clark, Sumac, Thundercat, Wolf Eyes, Six Organs of Admittance, Goblin, Lori Goldston and Sun Araw) as well as participating in projects of Anthony Braxton and Glenn Branca.
Keith has been featured prominently at multiple Vancouver based festivals such as the Vancouver International Jazz Festival, New Forms Festival and Music Waste.
Heavy Gestures
Heavy Gestures, by V.Vecker, is a project inspired by the writings of Richard D. Kramer that center on the temporal phenomenological experience of early Minimalist music.
Utilizing long form compositional techniques, nonlinear structures and repetitious motifs, Heavy Gestures looks to develop an acoustemology that is inclusive of temporal qualities while enhancing the phenomenological experience through the implementation of multichannel immersive sound reinforcement.
Heavy Gestures is presented as part of Lobe’s Artist Residency Series in June 2024 at Lobe.
This project was made possible by support from the British Columbia Arts Council.
