Did you know that Lobe is governed by a Non-Profit?
Founded in 2020, Strathcona Spatial Sound Society facilitates practices and projects related to immersive listening and new media art.
The Non-Profit Society was developed to support creation and presentation in spatial sound.
SSSS does this through increasing access to the permanently integrated 4DSOUND system at Lobe Studio and temporary installations of site-specific multichannel sound systems.
Since 2020, Strathcona Spatial Sound Society has supported:

The purpose of the society is to:
• Provide space, technology and instruction for local, national and global artists to further their research, education and creation in sound and digital media.
• Organize and promote activities for its members, the local artistic community, and the broader public.
SSSS maintains the accessibility of spatial sound, particularly in the Vancouver area by:
• Providing bursaries to artists working in spatial sound through Lobe’s Artist Residency program
• Funding the use of Lobe as a resource for community partners
• Maintaining an accessibility fund to hire ASL interpreters, DeafBlind interveners, Vocal Eye services etc.
Spatial sound is a new medium and its applications are diverse, with many yet to be determined.
Our team works to maintain this openness and curiosity, while foregrounding the capacity spatial sound technology has to contribute to the health of individual listeners and listening communities.
By keeping Lobe’s residency program open to different disciplines and intentions, SSSS facilitates affordable access to spatial sound across many different forms of social practice.
