The team at Lobe invites all who are curious to a demonstration of the software powering MOTHER CLOUD, and that all of its program's spatial compositions have been created in!
You will see the 4DSOUND visualizer that artists and producers interface with, and have a chance to ask questions to the only team in North America who work at a fully integrated 4DSOUND studio. This promises to be an illuminating, but not demystifying, session.
Following the software demo are two spatial sound pieces created at Lobe. The first is by MOTHER CLOUD's technical director, Alex Penney (aka Pendamental) whose piece Before the Garden was created to open the Lobe Dome at Bass Coast 2023. The second, by Vancouver-based violinist, ZAMEEN-A, is a poetic exploration of what she calls “ecstatic suffering," musically informed by the Persian tradition, and created during her artist residency at Lobe last year. Both pieces engage with spatial sound as a unique sonic medium by leaning into its capacity to author narratives, alternative environments, and inner states.
This special program blurs distinctions between live performance and spatial diffusions. It features several artists whose work interacts inquisitively with traditions in musical composition and addresses musical inheritance through a very intimate engagement with specific instruments and acoustic spaces.
The evening opens with an impactful spatial composition by Kali Malone, of her piece Carved Windswept in Stone. This gives way to a live spatialized performance by metal guitarist and vocalist Claine Gorgoth Lamb, followed by a live performance of a new, full-length piece by Stefan Maier. Next, we'll hear a piece created at MONOM by fellow investigator of acoustic phenomena and modular synthesis, Thomas Ankersmit.
This moves us into a diffusion of Softness, Flashes, Floating Rage by Polish artist and sound engineer, Aleksandra Słyż. The program closes with Abluzione by Italian sound artist and researcher Isabella Forciniti, whose choral approach to digital networking offers us soft transport outwards, and elsewhere.
