Sunday opens with a cosmically-informed sound meditation created and facilitated by Lobe's co-founder, Kate De Lorme. This original soundscape has been composed specifically for MOTHER CLOUD, offered as a tool to integrate experiences had during the festival.
Following a short break architect and artist Evan Dysart performs a live ambient set accompanied by immersive, generative visuals from Ephemeral Objects and Laine Butler. Their set will move into the North American premiere of Evan's latest spatial sound composition, created in residence at MONOM in Berlin last year.
The next diffusion is a recording of an hour-long, improvised spatial sound set by award-winning UK turntabilist, NikNak. This piece, called Eternities, was performed at Stone Nest in London at the 4DSOUND residency in 2023, and cited as one of the highlights of their month-long program there.
Rena Anakwe returns after opening Lobe and New Form's festival last year with her sound-healing practice, A Space for Sound. Rena's artistry exemplifies spatial sound's therapeutic possibilities, as she integrates traditional healing practices, performance, and experiential interactions with technology. Her sound bath was a memorable part of last year's program for many, and we're thrilled she was able to make the trip from Brooklyn to join us again.
This is the final night of the festival, and we're planning to send everyone home mind-bent and smiling. Founding Mood Hut member, and one-half of Pender Street Steppers, Jack J, is opening the program with a live set he's calling Blue Desert. You can expect stripped-back, ambient dub, and pop experiments, including some works in progress from his upcoming album.
Jack's performance crossfades into a large-scale version of Lobe's favorite "Experiments in Live Spatialization" monthly, Sunday Orbit. Alex Penney (Pendamental), Dave Biddle (Kopyright Linear Flux), and special guest, Van Lefan will fill the room by maximizing the potential for enjoyment from the 40+ channel sound system.
We are going to finish all of this off with some "explorations in bass music" during a 2 hour DJ set by the legendary Young Dene. Founder of Low Pass Music, 5x Bass Coast alumnus, and a key player in Canada's soundsystem culture, Young Dene's dedication to music, drum beats and bass runs deep. They specialize in Footwork, Jungle, Drum & Bass, and keeping the dance floor popping... We can't think of a better way to shut all this down together.
