“Lungs of the Earth,” an innovative and immersive sound installation, will debut in Vancouver from November 14th to 16th at Lobe Sound Gallery. This unique exhibition invites audiences to step into a spatialized soundscape, transporting them to the heart of the Amazon rainforest.

Curated by Alyssa Martens and mixed by composer Bernardo Alvarado Rojas, the installation features field recordings by Felix Blume captured in the Amazon. Interwoven with these recordings are four elemental poems—“Water” by Patrizia Longhitano, “Fire” by Virna Teixeira, “Air” by Alyssa Martens, and “Earth” by Monika Radojevic—written by Brazilian poets. These poems guide visitors on a narrative journey, exploring the delicate interplay between human and animal voices in a forest under threat.

The 17-minute soundscape runs continuously on a loop, offering audiences a fully immersive, multi-sensory experience. Through this evocative sound and narrative environment, “Lungs of the Earth” serves as a powerful monument to the songs and stories being lost due to deforestation and climate change.
