Shapeshifter is a queer experimental multimedia sound & motion picture production collective.

Formed by Chantal Gering and Rae Grant Duff in July 2022, Shapeshifter specialises in analog cinematography and somatic practices. Shapeshifter works on the stolen ancestral lands of the Musqueam Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh peoples.

Chantal Gering

Chantal (they/she/he) is an interdisciplinary artist with Latinx and German roots located on the stolen lands of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh peoples.

Chantal is informed by the generative somatics lineage with a focus in practicing choreographies for collective liberation. They have graduated from UBC BFA Acting program: their theater creation works include Wings Over Water: A Diasporic Bird Play, Papa Records Everything, and An Ode to Diaspora.

Chantal’s art practice gestures towards queer joy, poetic spellcasting, and movement improvisations.

Rae Grant Duff

Rae Grant Duff known professionally as Rae Fay is an independent analog filmmaker, queercore noisemaker and non-binary drag artist.

Rae’s lens focuses on experimentation, historically ignored stories and building community through fostering connection and collaboration between queer artists and the general public. They have co-facilitated eco-processing workshops at Moberly Fieldhouse through Echo Park Film Center North since 2020.Rae made a short film  about a Queer Elder called Auntie Tinkerbell which premiered as part of the Queer Film Festival in partnership with Reel Youth.

Shapeshifter: Queer Healing

Queer Healing: An immersive sound bath with projected experimental movement films focusing on trans and gender non-conforming body and voice combined with environmental field recordings. A platform where all are welcome to partake in deep listening, breath work, guided somatic practice.
