Mac DeMarco | Five Easy Hot Dogs

In June 2023, Mac DeMarco came to Lobe as an artist-in-residence to mix a spatial arrangement of his instrumental road trip record, Five Easy Hot Dogs.

Mac quickly gained facility conducting the sonic possibilities afforded by 4DSOUND. Using a patch in Ableton Live, he gave every instrument or stem its own specific place and pathway in space. Through this process, all of the sounds that make up each song come to move around listeners in hypnotic orbits.

The result is a fully immersive version of Five Easy Hot Dogs. Listening to the album this way falls somewhere between the experience of live and recorded music – while Mac may not be there, his presence is extraordinarily felt.
